Seaside runners raise over £8,000

Sunday saw our amazing runners set out on the gruelling 26.2 mile course around the coastline of Brighton. It was very windy but dry and sunny.

Just after 9am our runners set off with Dan, Bez, Burtie, Ian, Jhan & Ben all charging forward and Jamie with a more controlled start due to the rather large outfit, collection bucket, and being more interested in giving Gus Poyet a “high five” as he crossed the starting line!

The first 10 miles brough some very challenging uphill running into the wind which proved to be a very difficult start for the giant T-shirt wearing trustee who soon saw his fellow team mates on their way back down the hill towards Brighton town centre whilst he was struggling to keep the outfit together and his legs moving forward up the hill.

Unfortunately, it was this first part of the race that saw the demise of Jhan who although had been suffering dreadfully with food poisoning on the morning following bad sushi the night before, still decided to try and run and got to mile 1.5 before being taken away in an ambulance. Fortunately Jhan is ok, and all at SHHiRT would like to thank him for his efforts.

The race continued to bring it’s challenges but it was a great atmosphere and there was plenty of banter being had around the course.

5 of our 6 remaining runners completed the run in amazing times: Dan 3hrs 28mins, Ian 3hrs 37mins, Burtie 3hrs 38mins, Bez 3hrs 46mins and Ben with 3hrs 58mins …… and our plucky trustee Jamie came in still in full costume and carrying £335 worth of coins weighing a wopping 1 stone with a time of 6hrs 51mins.

Once finnished Jamie joined the rest of his team (who had been drinking for a good couple of hours!) in the Old Ship pub for a much needed pint and massage!

Thanks to Kirsty and Jon Lane who provided all our runners with post race massages and is probably the reason most were able to walk the next day!!

And last but not least, the biggest thanks goes to our loyal supporters who gave up a whole day to attend and cheer our runners on, and who do so at every event. Without you we would not be such a success.

We are thrilled to announce that we have already raised over £8,000 and money is still coming in!!! What a great day! Some more photos are below.
